Many of us are familiar with Doug Shumard for his important work in founding Good
Shepherd Catholic Radio in Jackson. Doug is now a published author. Forever
Thirteen is…
“…the true story of a family tragedy as recounted by the nearly 12-year-old brother
who writes this story some years later. It is a story of a mother’s nervous breakdown
and a father’s inability to provide comfort to his children. It is a firsthand account
of unintentional abandonment, suffering, sadness, detachment, guilt and recovery.”
This book is Doug’s personal tale of trial and triumph following the drowning death of
his older brother Loren who died at age 13 in 1954. Please join us Sunday, November 18,
after the noon Mass (at about 1:15 p.m.) in Vincentian Hall for a reading and book signing.
Doug and his wife Barbara will provide a few readings from the book with time for
roundtable discussions. Books, and book signings will be available at the conclusion.
There will be no charge for the book, but a donation will be appreciated, with all donations
going to Good Shepherd Catholic Radio.
