Hello! I am John M. “GB” Richmond, “GB” being a nickname from my mid-teens. First and foremost, praise God for leading me to this new adventure as General Manager of Good Shepherd Catholic Radio.
I was born and raised here in Jackson, graduating in 1985 from Northwest High School. In 1989 I received my BA from the University of Michigan in Sports Management and Communications, with my concentration in television and radio broadcasting. My initial dream was to be the next Ernie Harwell, Frank Beckmann, or George Blaha.
Instead, I ended up co-founding a retirement distribution firm called Richmond Brothers with my brother Dave in September 1994. I handled a variety of positions as the firm grew over the years, primarily working in marketing and teaching financial seminars.
Throughout those first 41 years of life, my faith was apathetic. I did not have an authentic relationship with Christ, and , therefore, I never experienced “transformation.”
On March 8, 2009, that all changed. I experienced my “awakening.” Long story short, I ended up taking theology clas-ses and earned a BA in Theological Studies from Siena Heights University. Soon after, I found myself led by the Lord to teach Theology at Lumen Christi High School. This past June I completed my fourth year when the Lord tapped me on the shoulder and pointed me in the direction of GSCR.
My beautiful wife Dannielle and I will be married 16 years come November. Together, our blended family includes five grown children and two Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs.
As the Lord called me to this position at GSCR, He has also given me many ideas for local shows to highlight the magnificent Catholic tapestry of our broadcast area. How exciting!
I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord does, as well as meeting all of you. I appreciate your prayers for me as this new endeavor begins. You will most certainly be in mine!
